This school, like many schools, uses public water. It is safe to drink for children and useful for cleaning dishes and classrooms. What they don’t want, however, is water that will make them have to replace their pipes or water heaters in 10 to 20 years. They will have to do this because Greencastle public water has a hardness of over 18 grains per gallon, some of the hardest water in our area. Over time, this hard water consistently deposits calcium and magnesium inside the pipes, clogging them until water no longer goes everywhere the school needs it.
